Katinka Frida Bohse Meyer

About

The Danish soprano, Katinka Bohse Meyer, is educated from Opernschule der HMDK Stuttgart and the Danish National Academy of Music with Prof. Thilo Dahlmann and Henriette Bonde-Hansen.

In 2026 she is chosen as Bayreuth-Stipendiatin from RWV Stuttgart and has done her first recording in the title role Dornröschen (Sleeping Beauty) in the Märchenoper by Joachim Raff with Württembergischer Philharmonie Reutlingen and Bachchor Stuttgart for the record label CPO. In 2026 she is also debuting with the soprano part in Mendelssohn’s Paulus with Copenhagen Cantata Choir- and Orchestra and touring with Lied-concerts around Denmark.

Her voice has been described as dark and lyrical with a warm timbre, which she has demonstrated in numerous stage roles in Denmark, Germany, Norway and Japan, such as La Contessa di Almaviva (Le Nozze di Figaro), Giulietta (Giulietta e Romeo) and Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus).

In 2025 Katinka was rewarded The-Lars-Waage-Prize for her role as Giulietta in Nicola Vaccai’s Giulietta e Romeo at Den Fynske Opera with the words from artistic director, Eva-Maria Melbye: “Her ability to convey emotional intensity and complexity both vocally and scenically makes her a promising talent on the current Danish opera scene and bodes well for the future”. The opera is revived in November-December 2026.

Katinka’s operatic repertoire ranges from Mozart to contemprorary classical music with a flair for the full lyrical soprano repertoire from composers like Puccini and Bizet as well as the wider operetta roles. She is also an experienced concert singer of both Lied and oratorio with a focus on songs by Richard Strauss, Arnold Schönberg, Peter Heise, Clara Schumann, Fanny Hensel and Amy Beach.

Together with tenor, Gustav Wenzel Most, she co-founded the opera company called Bar’Opera dedicated to broadening the reach of opera to new audiences - for instance with the chamber opera The Pet Shop at Studenterhus Odense 2022 and the opera-for-beginners concert lecture Det’ Bar’Opera! at the same place 2025.

To be updated

Together with tenor, Gustav Wenzel Most, Katinka co-founded the opera company called Bar’Opera.
With the mission of broadening the reach of opera to new audiences Bar’Opera has together with Studenterhus Odense made performances about opera for young people. With a beer included in the ticket, they have conveyed opera with a “down-to-earth-vibe” first with the 50 minute chamber opera The Pet Shop and later the concert lecture Det’ Bar’Opera! (It’s just opera!).

“And what singers they are! Not a finger to be placed on any of them (…) Katinka Bohse Meyer’s dark soprano lends Giulietta’s role with tenderness and pain.”

“Giulietta e Romeo  emerges as  a  truly  enchanting bel canto  opera with  strong and  well defined  characters (...) Katinka  Bohse  Meyer’s Giulietta  is under pressure from multiple sides,  and her frustrations are palpable both in her voice and in her body”.
